5G Core Network Virtual Laboratory

The 5G Core Network Virtual Lab adopts a constructivist pedagogical approach, fostering active learning by integrating theoretical foundations with experiential practice to achieve higher-order cognitive outcome. Students gain deep comprehension of 5G architecture, protocols (e.g., NGAP, NAS, SBI per 3GPP). Key objectives include:
  • Conceptual Mastery: Understand core concepts via visualized information flows and dashboards.
  • Skill Development: Apply hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
  • Study the principles of Service-Based Architecture (SBA).
  • Understand the roles and interactions of major 5G Network Functions.
  • Understand the communication and data exchange between the UE, gNB, and 5G Core Network, and perform bandwidth and latency measurements to evaluate the performance of the 5G network.
  • Critical Thinking: Evaluate real-world scenarios and innovate solutions via negative testing.
  • Transferable Competence: Bridge academia-industry gap, enabling independent real-lab execution and lifelong 5G proficiency.
